NAMARS PR: HATTON TOPS PECATONICA FIELD

HATTON TOPS PECATONICA FIELD

 by Bryan Gapinski

PECATONICA, IL, June 7---Scott Hatton took advantage of a mid-race accident
sidelining leader A.J. Felker to win the 20-lap Feature event at the
Pecatonica Motor Speedway, Saturday Night co-sanctioned by the Badger Midget
Series and NAMARS.
Felker jumped into the lead on the opening circuit on the large half-mile
track. Hatton moved into second on the third lap, with Tracy Hines third,
after starting ninth. The trio pulled away from the field, while great
position racing took place behind them. Felker began lapping the tail of the
field on the eighth lap.
Felker held at two second advantage at the midway point. One lap later
Felker hit the front stretch wall lapping a slower car. Felker's car
continued to bounce off the wall several times, with him flipping end over
end three times. Felker escaped injury in the accident.
On the restart Hatton led the field down for the restart, using several
lapped cars between himself, and Hines, Hatton held a comfortable lead.
Hines continued to cut into Hatton's lead, and trailed on the final lap by
three car lengths, but lapped traffic allowed Hatton win the event by 2.48
seconds. Cory Kruseman, who earlier in the night set a new one-lap track
record in qualifying, finished third. Davey Ray, and Brad Kuhn rounded out
the top five, as all the starting field except Felker finished the event.
Besides Kruseman's record, Hines broke the existing four, and eight lap
track records while Brandon Waelti set a new ten lap standard. Badger
returns to the facility on Saturday Night July 12. The NAMARS Championship
MidgetCar Series heads to Grundy County Speedway's paved 3/8 mile Saturday,
June 14.
