Strike Ends at Garden State Tanning

Union Members Declare Victory as They Prepare to Return to Work Tomorrow

HAGERSTOWN, Md., June 9 -- Union officials from the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees [UNITE] announced today that the strike at Garden State Tanning, Inc., has ended and that workers will return to their jobs tomorrow.

Eight hundred workers went on strike last Saturday after contract negotiations with company management broke down. Both sides have since returned to the table and negotiated a contract.

"Now that we can put these issues behind us, we look forward to working with the company in the future," said Harold Bock, UNITE Vice President and Manager of the Mid-Atlantic Joint Board. "Our members have shown that they are committed to standing together in solidarity, and the good contract we have negotiated is a direct result of that commitment."
