NOTES OF INTEREST: The Flagstar 200 will be the 20th ARCA RE/MAX Series event at MIS since the series first raced there in 1980. Joe Ruttman won from the pole in the inaugural event on July 20, 1980; and Billie Harvey won later that same year while Harry Gant sat on the pole. It would be 19 years before another ARCA driver (David Keith '99) would win from the pole at MIS. Other winners from the pole include Blaise Alexander in '01 & Chad Blount in '02. Considering the ARCA RE/MAX Series was born in Toledo OH in 1953, MIS, located less than an hour from the ARCA home office, is considered by many as ARCA's hometown superspeedway. This year's Flagstar 200 presents an interesting mix of talent from veterans Frank Kimmel, Bobby Gerhart and Jason Jarrett to rookies Christi Passmore and Bill Eversole. Passmore leads Eversole by just 6 points in the battle for ARCA Rookie of the Year. 17-year-old Greenwood IN driver Shelby Howard, entered in the Mack Trucks-Beck Dodge, became the youngest superspeedway winner in ARCA history with his recent victory at Kansas. Howard was already the youngest ARCA winner overall with his victory at Salem earlier this year. Howard will be the youngest driver in the field while James Harvey Hylton, 68, will be the oldest. Hylton finished 16th at Kansas Speedway back on June 1. Also entered is 18-year-old Kyle Busch in a Hendrick Motorsports entry. Busch won earlier this year at Nashville and Kentucky. Other notable entrants include full-time Winston Cup driver Casey Mears in a Chip Ganassi Dodge and Winston Cup/Busch Series veteran Hermie Sadler who has entered his own Pontiac Grand Prix. Jeff Purvis and Tim Steele are tied with the most wins at MIS with 3. Tied with 1 win each are Blaise Alexander, Ron Barfield, Chad Blount, Kerry Earnhardt, Billie Harvey, David Keith, Bob Keselowski, Frank Kimmel, Tracy Leslie, Dave Mader, Joe Ruttman, Stanley Smith & Mark Thompson. Of the drivers entered, only Frank Kimmel and Tim Steele are former ARCA RE/MAX Series winners at MIS.
