CASCAR Super Series
Dodge Dealers of Ontario 200
Race #2 of 12

For immediate release / June 7, 2003

Micks wins the Dodge Dealers of Ontario 200 CASCAR Super Series race at
Peterborough Speedway

PETERBOROUGH, ON Kerry Micks moved to within two points of CASCAR Super
Series leader Don Thomson Jr. by winning Saturday night’s ‘Dodge Dealers of
Ontario 200’ at Peterborough Speedway. Micks started on the pole and led 99
laps including the final 39 to capture his first CASCAR feature victory
since May of 2001.
The race was primarily a two-driver battle between Micks and Thomson; the
pair led all but 20 circuits of the 200-lap chase around the high-banked,
1/3-mile oval. Thomson put his Home Hardware Chevy underneath Micks’ UFCW
Taurus on lap 80 and was able to stretch out considerable leads on several
occasions. But with 50 laps remaining, Micks started to cut into Thomson’s
advantage. And by lap 160, Micks was all over the defending Super Series
champion.
With his handling starting to go away, Thomson was forced to relent, which
opened the door for Micks to make the winning pass on lap 162. Although
Thomson backed off for several laps in preparation for one final attempt at
victory, he was unable to recover the lead and at the finish, came home
.752 of a second behind Micks. Thomson’s runner-up finish was his second in
two events, giving the Ayr, ON racer his best-ever start to a Super Series
season and a 329 to 327 edge in the points, over Micks.
Brad Graham’s third-place result was the best of his Super Series career,
and was especially satisfying following the events of two weeks ago at
Delaware Speedway when the Glencoe, ON racer saw a probable second-place
finish slip away with just a handful of laps to go.
Intrepid drivers DJ Kennington, Dave Whitlock, Neil Fair and Mark Dilley
finished fourth through seventh, respectively. Kennington’s result was
especially impressive, considering he pitted from fourth place to change
tires, 80 laps into the race.
The final 101 laps were run without being interrupted by a caution flag,
which is uncharacteristic for Super Series races at Peterborough Speedway.
The facility is known as one of the toughest tracks on the circuit. At the
end, just six of the 26 who started were still on the lead lap.

RACE NOTES: During qualifying for the Dodge Dealers of Ontario 200, Kerry
Micks posted the fastest time of the 26 drivers who participated. The UFCW
Taurus driver lapped the 1/3-mile oval in just 14.370 seconds, at a speed
of 83.424 miles per hour. Mark Dilley was second with a lap of 14.403
seconds, ahead of defending race winner DJ Kennington. Both Dilley and
Kennington drive Intrepids.
