SILVERSTONE MONZA TESTS 3/4/5 June 2003
Summary
After victory on the idiosyncratic Monaco street circuit last
weekend, the BMW
WilliamsF1 Team concluded an intensive test programme in two locations at
high
speed, low downforce circuits this week ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix.
Ralf
Schumacher spearheaded the programme at Silverstone, while Marc Gené joined
five other teams testing in Italy at the Monza circuit. The team will
conclude its
programme with straight line testing at Silverstone tomorrow.
Sam Michael (Chief Operations Engineer, WilliamsF1):
"We finalised a busy programme at Silverstone today with extensive tyre
testing
and set-up work for Montreal, as well as engine endurance running for BMW.
In
all we managed to complete 640kms of useful work in a single day, and over
the
course of this test and our simultaneous programme at Monza, we
have made
some useful progress for Montreal and beyond."
Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director):
"We have been testing at two different circuits this week. In Monza, the
focus was
on preparation work for Montreal, set-up work for the Italian
Grand Prix and
general tyre development. In Italy we were also also working on the engine's
set-
up and development. During these tests we have been able to learn plenty
from
two defects which will assist with future development of
the engine. The
Silverstone test was mainly concerned with chassis development and set-up
work
for the British Grand Prix. In summary we have had two intensive
and positive
tests."
