ARCA RE/MAX starting grid, Pocono

MEARS MAKES NEW ARCA RE/MAX TRACK RECORD AT POCONO

 

LONG POND PA (6-5-03)  Casey Mears set a new one-lap ARCA RE/MAX Series track record here Thursday at Pocono Raceway. 

 

Mears, in Chip Ganassi's Target Dodge, won the Old Milwaukee Pole with a speed of 169.802 mph surpassing Stuart Kirby's old mark of 169.329. 

 

"We had a real good lap," said Mears. "It helps when you have very good equipment and a very good crew. I'm here for seat-time and of course, we definitely want to win the race. The ARCA RE/MAX cars are just like the Cup cars.  Everything we learn here in the ARCA division will transfer over to the Cup Series. I've never raced at Pocono other than testing, so the ARCA race should serve as a great learning experience. I'm happy to by here, and I'm very grateful for the pole award."  

 

Frank Kimmel, in the Advance Auto Parts-Pork Ford, qualified for the outside pole with a speed of 166.534 mph. Jason Jarrett, Mario Gosselin and 17-year-old Shelby Howard make up the top-five respectively.

 

Saturday's ARCA Giant 200 at Pocono Raceway will be televised live on SPEED Channel this Saturday at 1 pm eastern.
