Jiffy Lube Teams-up with the Greater Chicago Food Depository to Fight Hunger During June and July
ELK GROVE, Ill., June 5 -- In recognition of Hunger Awareness Month in the Greater Chicago area, Jiffy Lube today announced its summer food drive for the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Chicago's food bank. Beginning Monday, June 9th, through the end of July, Jiffy Lube outlets throughout Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana will be collecting canned goods to benefit the Food Depository. Motorists donating a can of food at their local Jiffy Lube will receive a Signature Service Oil Change for $19.99. Jiffy Lube's goal is to collect 10,000 pounds of canned goods during the seven-week period.
"We know that a lot of our neighbors are having a difficult time," said Chuck Graziano, Jiffy Lube's director of marketing. "We felt that a canned food drive was a good way to get everyone involved and to be able to make a difference."
Motorists are urged to donate foods such as canned fruits, vegetables, soup, meat and fish. In exchange, they will receive a discount on Jiffy Lube's Signature Service Oil Change including up to five quarts of Pennzoil or Quaker State Conventional Oil. Those who wish to upgrade to premium oils will also receive a $7.00 rebate check with mail-in application.
"It's terrific that Jiffy Lube is holding this food drive now rather than waiting for the traditional holiday giving season," said Michael Mulqueen, the Food Depository's executive director. "Our need is particularly great this summer as jobs continue to be scarce, and our pantries see new faces every week."
With more than 600 local pantries, shelters and soup kitchens, the Food Depository, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, feeds more than 91,000 hungry adults and children every week. This year, the Food Depository expects to distribute 42 million pounds of food.
"No one should ever have to go to bed hungry," said Graziano. "With the help of our customers and our neighbors, we want to help ensure that every child, every family, every senior has a nutritious meal every day."
