Lisoni & Lisoni Announces Filing of Motion for Class Certification in Firestone Steeltex Tire Class-Action Lawsuit
PASADENA, Calif.--June 3, 2003--Class-action attorneys Lisoni & Lisoni announced today the filing of their motion to certify a nationwide class of consumers who own allegedly defective Firestone Steeltex (R4S, R4SII, or A/T) tires. According to Attorney Joseph Lisoni of the Lisoni law firm, the class-certification motion is an attempt to obtain court approval to represent an estimated five million consumers who have purchased approximately 30 million allegedly defective Firestone Steeltex tires. In support of the Lisoni law firm's motion, plaintiffs from 38 states submitted declarations to the court requesting to act as class representatives for their state in the Firestone Steeltex tire class-action litigation. Even more compelling, Attorney Joseph Lisoni stated that the firm expects to receive declarations from people residing in all 50 U.S. states volunteering to act as class representatives for their state.
The class-certification motion follows on the heels of an April 24, 2003, major courtroom victory for the Lisoni law firm and the consumers represented in the national class-action lawsuit when Judge Christopher Sheldon of the Indio, Calif., Superior Court sustained Lisoni's national class-action lawsuit against Bridgestone/Firestone, Inc.
If the motion to certify the class is granted, Attorney Joseph Lisoni states that the Firestone Steeltex class action will be one of the largest class actions in American jurisprudence and notes that the class-action lawsuit could cost Bridgestone/Firestone in excess of $3 billion. In addition to the class-action lawsuit, the Lisoni law firm filed a petition with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) seeking the reopening of a safety-defect investigation of the Firestone Steeltex tire line. Although NHTSA was expected to announce its decision by May 27, 2003, no decision from NHTSA has been made.
