Automotive Manufacturer Selects MAPICS Based On Industry Knowledge, Manufacturing Expertise

    ATLANTA--June 3, 2003--

Michigan Automotive Compressor, Inc. looks to MAPICS to help maintain world-class standards for its growing enterprise

MAPICS, Inc. , the largest global provider of extended ERP, CRM and SCM solutions committed exclusively to solving the unique challenges of manufacturers, today announced that Michigan Automotive Compressor, Inc. (MACI) has selected the MAPICS ERP for iSeries solution to manage its manufacturing operations.
Located in Parma, Mich., MACI manufactures the compressor and clutch components of automotive air conditioning systems. The company's products can be found in the air conditioners of cars such as the Toyota Camry, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Honda Accord and the new Hummer H2. MACI is a joint venture owned by Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) and DENSO Corporation, both based in Japan.
MACI was previously using some MAPICS components to manage its accounting, purchasing and tool crib inventory. This most recent deal involves the addition of the MAPICS core solution, ERP for iSeries, which will replace the existing homegrown enterprise system.
"We simply outgrew the enterprise system we had in place," explained Eric Chaney, manager of information systems for MACI. "We needed a solution that would be in-line with our high standards of performance and would be able to grow with us. MACI has seen a 15 percent growth rate per year over the past five years, therefore MAPICS' stability, flexibility and comprehensive support organization were critical factors in our selection. With MAPICS, as opposed to the other solutions we considered, we're confident that we can complete the implementation project on time, and within budget."
Beth Jewell, assistant manager of maintenance for MACI, added, "MAPICS' dedication to world-class manufacturing has already proven itself at MACI. For example, we use MAPICS' inventory management component to control our tool crib, where we have only a $750 variance on our $15.5 million inventory. We view this 99.9 percent accuracy as a strong indicator that the MAPICS ERP solution will enable us to maintain our world-class standards throughout the organization and realize very high ROI as a result of the implementation."
MACI will be working closely with MAPICS' affiliate company MK & Associates during the implementation, which is slated for completion in January 2004. MAPICS' ability to provide local support through affiliate MK & Associates played a prominent role in MACI's decision to go with MAPICS, especially because MAPICS' exceptional customer support and strong overall user experience was recently recognized by Forrester Research in a January 2003 report entitled, "The Best ERP Vendor Experience."
"We look forward to extending our relationship with MACI to include its enterprise-wide manufacturing operations," said John Carter, senior vice president and general manager of North American operations for MAPICS. "It's clear that our dedication to world-class manufacturing is in synch with MACI's focus on being the best at what they do."
