Hyundai Motor May Local Sales -27% To 54,861

SEOUL June 1, 2003; Jeongjin Lim writing for the Dow Jones Newswires reported that Hyundai Motor Co.'s May domestic sales tumbled 27% on year to 54,861 units due mainly to weak domestic consumption, the Yonhap Infomax reports citing unnamed company officials Monday.

Hyundai Motor couldn't immediately confirm the figure. The company is scheduled to release its official automobile sales figures for May at around 0300 GMT, said a company spokesman Jake Jang.

The reported May automobile sales figure is 9% lower than April.
