Exide Technologies Receives Toyota Value Improvement Award for 2002

PRINCETON, N.J., May 29, 2003 -- Exide Technologies (BULLETIN BOARD: EXDTQ, www.exide.com) , a global leader in stored electrical-energy solutions, recently received a Certificate of Achievement from Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America. The award recognizes the Exide contributions to Toyota's Value Improvement program during 2002.

Exide, which has been a supplier of original equipment automotive starting batteries to Toyota since 1988, received the award at Toyota's annual business meeting. This award marks the 12th time that Toyota has recognized Exide Technologies for delivery, quality or value improvement.

Exide Technologies supplies the original equipment batteries to Toyota's North American plants in Georgetown, Kentucky; Princeton, Indiana and Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. Exide manufactures Toyota batteries at its facility in Shreveport, Louisiana.
