THE MILWAUKEE MILE IS NEXT FOR DORRICOTT RACING
WEST ALLIS, Wis. (May 28, 2003) - After a seven week respite from
competitive racing, Dorricott Racing is looking forward to getting back
into the championship hunt when round three of the 12-race Toyota Atlantic
Championship at the famed Milwaukee Mile unfolds this weekend.
However, there will be a new look for the defending Toyota Atlantic
champions because the team expanded during the recess with the addition of
driver Kyle Krisiloff, of Carmel, Ind. Krisiloff will join second-year
Dorricott driver Luis Diaz, of Mexico City.
The 70 lap/72.24 mile Toyota Atlantic sprint around the 1.032-mile
oval is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. (CT), Saturday, May 31. It is the
featured support race to the CART Milwaukee Mile Centennial 250, Presented
by Miller Lite, later that evening.
Diaz returns to Milwaukee seeking to vindicate last year's
misfortune when he struggled with various set-up and tire problems. He
started and finished ninth place in the Temex Swift 014.a.
The 2003 Atlantic season opened at Monterrey, Mexico, with
unavoidable poor luck for Diaz. Diaz started from the pole (his third
career $1000 Toyota "Pole Award") but as he crossed the Start-Finish line
at the race start he was unintentionally struck from behind by rookie A.J.
Allmendinger. Allmendinger was attempting to quickly improve his post-green
flag position by sweeping right-to-left from his third place grid position
behind Diaz. Unfortunately, Allmendinger's nose cone struck Diaz's right
rear tire in the process. The contact punctured the tire and forced Diaz to
return to pit lane.
Diaz dropped from first place to 15th during the pit stop before
proving just how fast the Dorricott Racing-prepared Telmex Swift was. Diaz
passed four cars in the next 27 laps and claimed the fastest lap on Lap 27
before running even faster on Lap 30. Diaz was the only driver in the field
who had descending lap times as the race progressed. If one excludes time
lost during the pit stop, Diaz clearly ran the fastest overall race thereby
suggesting a clean race start might have resulted in a victory.
Diaz was victimized again in round two at Long Beach. After
starting fourth, Diaz's podium ambitions were severed on lap seven of the
32-lap race when Marc DeVellis rear-ended his Sierra Sierra Racing
teammate, Ryan Dalziel. Both were forced to retire from the race but that
didn't help Diaz, who struck DeVellis from behind in a nose-to-gearbox
collision while exiting a blind corner. Diaz dropped to 12th before
mounting another aggressive comeback in the closing stages of the race to
finish sixth place.
Krisiloff is making his debut with Dorricott Racing at The
Milwaukee Mile in the US Grand Prix F1 Swift 014.a. He competed apart from
Dorricott Racing in the first two Atlantic races this season at Monterey
and Long Beach.
His Monterrey race disengaged on the parade lap. Krisiloff
qualified 12th but as he rounded a blind corner he encountered Romain Dumas
centered and stopped on the track. Krisiloff made an evasive move to the
inside but his right rear clipped Dumas's left rear. The resulting
suspension damage sidelined his car and prevented him from starting the
race.
Krisiloff rebounded at Long Beach in April when he earned a
career-best Atlantic finish of ninth place after starting 12th.
The 17-year-old Indiana resident made his Atlantic debut at Toronto
last season and competed in the final six Atlantic races earning a season
best finish of 13th place in the finale at Denver.
The 2003 Toyota Atlantic Championship is the 14th year that
Dorricott Racing has fielded an open-wheel racing team. It has evolved into
one of motorsports most successful organizations and proudly holds series'
championships in three of the past four years. Besides claiming runner-up
honors in the 2000 Dayton Indy Lights Championship, Dorricott Racing won
the 1999 and 2001 Dayton Indy Lights Championship and the 2002 Toyota
Atlantic Championship. Detailed race results, team, and sponsor information
are available on Dorricott Racing's official web site,
