Roadway Express Earns Top Industry Safety Awards from California Trucking Association

AKRON, Ohio--May 27, 2003--Roadway Express, Inc., one of the nation's leading less-than-truckload freight carriers, was honored at the California Trucking Association's (CTA) annual Safety Awards Banquet on May 6, 2003 in Sacramento, CA. Accepting the two first place awards on behalf of Roadway were Larry Koeneke and Lynwood Player, district safety managers, Charon Crites, road driver and current ATA America's Road Team Member, and Melissa Lonero, road driver.
Roadway's two first place Truck Safety Awards for accident frequency in a year were received in the less-than-truckload General Commodities Division: over 7,000,000 line-haul miles and over 4,000,000 local and inter-city miles. Candidates also have to be a member of the CTA and complete a bi-annual terminal inspection by the Department of California Highway Patrol.
"Roadway is very proud of all the employees in the state of California," stated Player. "Their hard work and focus on safety made these awards possible. It is proof that each employee is engaged in making our highways and workplace as safe as possible."
"We all congratulate these exceptional over-the-road and city pickup and delivery drivers for their excellent safety performance," stated Executive Vice President of Operations for Roadway, John Bronneck. "It is important to our company to be honored by such a fine organization as the CTA. It takes dedication and a strong commitment to the safety of our workplace and our highways, as well as serving our customers to achieve such high standards."
