NAMARS PR: FELKER FLIES AT SPEEDROME; NOBLITT CONQUERS K-CARS

FELKER FLIES AT SPEEDROME;

NOBLITT CONQUERS K-CARS

May 23, 2003

Indianapolis, IN Typically know as a dirt specialist, Jeffersonville, Indiana's AJ Felker proved his pavement prow less in dramatic fashion last night passing Mel Kenyon on lap 48 of the fifty lap A-Main in "Thursday Night Lightning" Series competition at the Indianapolis Speedrome. Kenyon led the first 48 laps from the pole until a minor slip entering turn four opened up a hole for Felker's nose. The two made contact exiting turn four with Felker coming out on top at the start/finish line.

AJ set quick time of the evening in qualifying and started fourth for the Feature by virtue of a pill draw inversion. He quickly began applying pressure to early race leaders Kenyon and last week's winner Sondi Eden who was racing to win an additional $500 bonus posted by an anonymous donor. Felker's night almost came to an early end when he made contact with the backstretch concrete attempting to pass Sean Smith for third place, relegating AJ back to seventh. With ten laps to go Felker began an incredible recovery passing all six cars plus lapped traffic in a matter of eight laps to take the win over Kenyon, Eden, Smith, and Rookie of the Year points leader Scott Thoman. Kenyon takes control of the Series points battle by mere one point margin over Eden heading into next week's rematch.

Jordon Noblitt garnered his first win of the Kenyon MidgetCar season over defending Series champion Bryan Clauson who had to settle for second place for the third week in a row. Noblitt and Clauson took an early lead over pole sitter, Brandon Knupp with Clauson unable to close a two to three car length gap for the remainder of the fifty lap main. The two veterans were able to hold off hard charging Rookie of the Year contender Bret Beauchamp, Jamie Williams, and Josh Clemons. Williams retains the Series points lead over Clauson and Beauchamp with a scant nine points separating the three teenage hotshoes.
