Markland Technologies, Inc. President Ken Ducey Interviewed on National Public Radio -NPR-
RIDGEFIELD, Conn.--May 23, 2003--Markland Technologies, Inc. (www.marklandtech.com) is pleased to announce that Mr. Ken Ducey, President and CFO, was recently interviewed on National Public Radio http://www.npr.org/.The May 21st interview was regarding the pending installation of the first pilot of the Vehicle Stopping System (VSS) at the San Ysidro, California port of entry. The interview is scheduled to be aired Monday morning, as part of The Morning Edition. An audio copy will be posted at http://www.npr.org.
The Vehicle Stopping System is designed to positively stop a vehicle without causing any harm to the occupants or innocent bystanders. The VSS is a remotely triggered denial of entry device that utilizes a net to capture and surround a suspicious vehicle. The device is installed in a trough underneath an exit lane, which is concealed by a high strength polymer cover that can withstand the force of passing vehicle traffic. The net is deployed from two towers each about four feet high on each side of the lane that are anchored to the ground by reinforced concrete and steel rods. The net is remotely activated at the checkpoint when an agent suspects a "port runner". Pneumatic power and a sophisticated breaking system capture the vehicle and simultaneously wrap its doors to prevent escape by the occupants until authorities arrive. Tests demonstrate that the pneumatic powered breaking system has the capability to stop a vehicle moving at 50 MPH with so little forward deceleration that the occupants' heads are not pitched forward.
