"Timken has aggressively transformed itself over the last three years to be a more customer-centric and competitive global leader," said Daniel E. Muller, vice president - distribution management. "With our acquisition of The Torrington Company in February of this year, we committed to quickly and efficiently integrate our new product brands into PTplace.com. This is a significant element of our strategy to enhance how we serve our authorized distributors."
The acquisition of Torrington expands The Timken Company's portfolio of bearings-based products. Torrington, a leading global manufacturer of needle roller bearings, complements Timken, a worldwide leader in the production of tapered roller bearings. Torrington's products also include ball, spherical and cylindrical bearings and motion control components and assemblies.
"This is an exciting step in the integration process as we transform to better serve our customers. Adding Torrington, Fafner and Kilian-branded products makes it possible for our distributors to increase their efficiency and effectiveness in the marketplace, and that positions us for mutually profitable growth," said Mr. Muller.
In 2001, The Timken Company formed a joint venture with INA Holding Schaeffler KG, Rockwell Automation and The SKF Group to create CoLinx, a neutral and convenient e-business marketplace. "This joint venture combines the products, knowledge and capabilities of premium brand manufacturers to deliver efficiencies to distributors of industrial products. Timken's commitment to CoLinx is a customer-driven initiative and improves the way business gets done," commented Mr. Muller. CoLinx operates a central Web site shopping mall, PTplace.com, which coordinates ordering and fulfillment for the partners.
The Timken Company ( www.timken.com ) is a leading international manufacturer of highly engineered bearings, alloy and specialty steels and components, and a provider of related products and services. Following its February 2003 acquisition of The Torrington Company, Timken employs 28,000 people worldwide in operations in 29 countries. In 2002, the combined companies had sales of approximately $3.8 billion.
