GM Designates M-CARE 'Benchmark' HMO

ANN ARBOR, Mich., May 21, 2003 -- M-CARE has been designated a "Benchmark" HMO by General Motors Company. Benchmark status means that M-CARE meets GM's highest standards in quality, service, and cost for HMOs offered to its salaried employees. In addition, the monthly contribution employees and retirees pay for Benchmarked plans is the lowest of all HMOs offered.

M-CARE has been a GM Benchmark plan since 2001. GM offers 76 health plans to its salaried employees across the country, and 13 of them are designated as Benchmark plans.

M-CARE is headquartered in Ann Arbor and currently has more than 200,000 members and contracts with nearly 2,200 employer groups. The organization has more than 5,000 physicians and nearly 40 hospitals in its 14-county commercial provider network. M-CARE currently offers HMO and Point of Service products, as well as Medicaid and Medicare plans. M-CARE holds an Excellent Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for its commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid HMOs.
