Benson's Winston Ends Early
It was a short night Saturday for Johnny Benson and his #10 Pontiac
team.
Benson started 15th and finished 24th of the 24 cars in the 40-lap opening
segment of Charlotte's Winston.
Only 20 cars transferred from the first to the second segment so Benson's night
ended before the second segment began. .
"We were tight in the corners and kind of had a four-wheel slide," Benson said.
"Our pit stop was good but we just couldn't catch those guys."
The first segment went caution free in the sport's annual all-star race.
But that didn't last long.
Three crashes in the 30-lap second segment eliminated almost half the field and
sent Bill Elliott to the hospital complaining of foot pain.
The final 20-lap shoot out also went caution free and saw Jimmie Johnson win
the $1 million prize.
Benson and his teammates return to action Thursday night qualifying for
Sunday's 600-mile point race.
