CASCAR Super Series MOPAR 300 May 17, 2003 Thomson wins the pole for Sunday's MOPAR 300 CASCAR Super Series race at Delaware Speedway LONDON, ON - On Saturday afternoon at Delaware Speedway, Don Thomson made it clear that he's very serious about winning a third consecutive CASCAR Super Series championship. During time trials for Sunday's season opening race - the MOPAR 300 - the Home Hardware Chevy driver lapped the half-mile, London area oval in a time of 19.432 seconds. The lap, which translated into a speed of 94.164 mph, was the fastest of the 33 competitors who qualified for Sunday's 300-lap race. Thomson's pole was the 12th of his Super Series career, and came at the track where he secured his second Super Series championship, last September. Starting alongside Thomson will be another racer who has a long history of success at Delaware Speedway. Steve Robblee recently secured his 100th CASCAR victory, when he won the May 2 Sportsman feature race at Delaware. And last fall, Robblee won the season-ending CASCAR Super Series race at Delaware, coming from a lap down to win the Great Canadian 300. Robblee's fastest lap, during qualifying for Sunday's MOPAR 300, was 19.575 seconds (91.954 mph). In all, 17 drivers recorded laps times of 20 seconds or less. The MOPAR 300 will start at 2:15 on Sunday afternoon.
