Speed Touring World Challenge Round 2
Qualifying
Mosport International Raceway
Saturday, May17, 2003
Race Date: Saturday, May 17, 2003
Forty-one Touring cars took the green flag for this morning's 20-minute
qualifying session for Round 2 of the 2003 SCCA Pro Racing Speed Touring Car
Championship at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario,
Canada.
Will Turner was the fastest of the 17 BMW 3 Series models in the field,
qualifying his No. 92 Turner Motorsport 325i fourth with a time of 1:33.571
around the 2.459-mile circuit. In only his second Speed Touring Car start,
rookie Matt Plumb put his No. 50 duPont Motorsport 325 into fifth with a
1:33.649 lap. Bill Auberlen will start his No. 93 Turner Motorsport 325i
eighth and last year's Round 2 Mosport winner, Ken Dobson, in the No. 7
Chili Pepper Racing 325Ci, will start ninth.
The 50-minute race is scheduled to start at 1:25 p.m. this afternoon.
WILL TURNER, No. 92 TURNER MOTORSPORT BMW 325i (fourth):
"It is great to be back at Mosport. We ran strong here last year, finishing
on the podium both times so we knew what the set-up would be and which way
we should go. I did my best to get the pole, but I am happy with fourth. My
teammates lost some testing time with the rain yesterday, but with Bill
(Auberlen) starting eighth and Frank (Selldorff) in 19th, I think we'll see
a Turner Motorsport BMW on the podium later today."
MATT PLUMB, No. 50 DUPONT MOTORSPORT BMW 325 (fifth):
"This is only my second race in the series and I have never been to Mosport
before. The rain shortened my testing time so I was really just trying to
feel out the track. Towards the end of the session I found some places to
pick up time, so I will capitalize on that in the race."
KEN DOBSON, No. 7 CHILI PEPPER RACING BMW 325Ci (ninth):
"Qualifying went well even with the green track because of all the rain we
have had here. The BMW handled the green track well to get ninth. The
Touring Car races are always eventful and Mosport has traditionally been a
good race track for me. I won the first race here last year and finished
fifth in the second so I am looking forward to the race."
