Rain causes cancellation of Friday night's MOPAR 300 'Twin 100s' at
Delaware Speedway
LONDON, ON - The start of the 2003 CASCAR Super Series season will have to
wait one more day. Constant rain showers in the London area have forced
Delaware Speedway and CASCAR officials to cancel the Friday night portion
of the MOPAR 300 race weekend. The evening was to have featured time trials
and the Twin 100 qualifying Sprint races.
As a result, time trial qualifying for the season opening Super Series
race will take place on Saturday afternoon at 2:15 p.m. The starting grid
for Sunday's MOPAR 300 will be set based entirely on a combination of the
results of the time trial session, and provisional starting positions.
The Twin 100 qualifying Sprint races, originally scheduled for Friday
evening, won't be part of the revamped weekend schedule. Having the
100-lappers take place the day before Sunday's main event would not have
given teams enough time to make repairs, should they have been involved in
a significant crash on Saturday.
Following the CASCAR time trial session, the previously planned Saturday
schedule, featuring regular Delaware Speedway classes, will resume.
Sunday's schedule, with its 2:15 p.m. start for the season opening MOPAR
300, is unchanged.
