Transit Agency Uses GPS and Wireless Communications System From Radio Satellite Integrators to Streamline Fleet Operations

TORRANCE, Calif., May 15, 2003 -- Radio Satellite Integrators, Inc. (RSI), a global provider of customized GPS-based vehicle tracking and mobile data solutions, today announced the completion of an Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system for the Isabella County Transportation Commission (ICTC). The ICTC provides on-demand and fixed route transportation services for the greater Isabella County area including the City of Mt. Pleasant and the University of Central Michigan.

Using the RSI AVL system and Motorola two-way radios, the ICTC administrators are able to track and monitor all 33 vehicles in the transit fleet on computerized maps for a variety of dispatching, supervisory, and security uses. Viewed on RSI's GIS mapping software, ICTC can see detailed real-time and archived location data for the fleet. Utilizing the wireless communications gateway provided by the RSI in-vehicle equipment, each vehicle is outfitted with a 12 inch touch screen tablet PC allowing the driver to send and receive messages from the dispatch headquarters. The tablet PC also provides a fully navigable digital map showing the vehicle's current GPS position as calculated by the RSI in-vehicle device. RSI is finalizing the full end-to-end integration to ICTC's StrataGen ADEPT Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system which will bring the driver an interactive work schedule all the way out to the in-vehicle computer.

"Our systems give companies with vehicle fleets the ultimate tool for optimizing productivity, efficiency, and safety," states RSI president Jonathan Michels. "The technology has reached a point where all agencies can now not only afford these systems, but require them to properly serve their communities."
