RIVERSIDE, Calif., May 14, 2003 -- Fleetwood Enterprises, Inc. , the nation's leader in recreational vehicle sales and a leading producer and retailer of manufactured housing, announced today the appointment of Roger L. Howsmon to senior vice president - Housing Group. Howsmon will be responsible for all functions of the Company's manufactured housing business, including operations, sales and marketing, and retail. The position has been vacant since September 2001, when Chuck Wilkinson, Fleetwood's chief operating officer, was promoted to executive vice president. Howsmon has more than 20 years of chief executive level experience at a variety of manufacturing and service companies. Most recently, he has been chairman and chief executive officer of Global Promo Group, a holding company specializing in mergers and acquisitions in the promotional products segment of the advertising industry. He was chairman and CEO for six years at Sierra Detroit Diesel Allison, a wholesale and retail industrial distributorship, where he led a successful turnaround effort. Other experience includes five years at Peterbilt Trucks, a division of PACCAR, where he ascended to general manager of the division with full profit and loss responsibility; and two years as president of Perkins Engines, where one of his accomplishments was implementing sales and marketing programs that resulted in a 21 percent sales increase. Howsmon started his career with 13 years at Cummins Engine Company, where he worked his way up from a marketing analyst to vice president of North American sales and service.
Howsmon holds a bachelor of science degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and completed the Executive Management Program at Stanford University. He was also a captain in the United States Air Force, where he served as an intelligence officer.
"Roger has a broad and impressive background and will be an outstanding addition to Fleetwood," Edward B. Caudill, president and CEO, said.
