PRUETT LOOKS TO BE FIVE FOR FIVE AT MOSPORT
Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada - Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup
driver Scott Pruett is looking for yet another victory at Mosport
International Raceway during the Victoria Day SCCA Trans-Am weekend, May
16-18. Pruett will be looking for his fifth Mosport race win in as many
starts.
Pruett, driver of the No. 7 Rocketsports Racing R Performance Jaguar XKR, has
collected an impressive list of victories at Mosport. With three Trans-Am
Series wins in 1986, 1987, and 1994 to his credit, Pruett also won the 1987
SCCA Endurance Championship 24-hour race at Mosport.
"Mosport is a challenging track," said Pruett, who won at St. Petersburg and
finished third at Long Beach. "It's a driver's track, and you have to be
willing to put it up and put it out there. You have to get into a flow and
just let it all hang out. It's such a fast track, with fast corners, unlike
what we had at St. Pete and Long Beach. Mosport is the type of track where
the skill level and experience of a driver really play a major role in the
outcome.
"The way you would set up your car at Mosport is drastically different than
how you would for a street circuit. When you set up for a street circuit like
Long Beach, you're preparing for turn, drag race, turn, turn, drag race
situations," added Pruett, who currently leads in the Drivers' Championship
standings. "With a permanent road course like Mosport, you're setting up for
the flow of the track, aerodynamics, support, and different types of spring
packages. There are a number of differences when setting up for a permanent
course compared to a temporary circuit.
"At Mosport, I will rely heavily on my Rocketsports crew and their years of
development and experience racing here to help put together a good car set-up
for the race," explained Pruett, who has not raced at Mosport since 1994.
"The communication between my crew chief, the team engineer, and me will play
a vital part in the equation of winning the race. Our communication level so
far this season has been great."
Round three of the Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup will be
televised on a tape delayed basis on SPEED Channel, May 18th at 5:30 pm EST.
