ADVISORY/The Red Bull Driver Search Begins for the Next US Formula 1 Driver at Metro Detroit's Kart 2 Kart
--May 13, 2003--| WHAT: | Kart2Kart, Indoor Karting and Conference Center kicks into high gear as the site of Phase 1 of the Red Bull Driver Search - Searching for the Future American F1 Champion. This once in a lifetime shot at the top for aspiring champions between the ages of 16 and 19, male or female, will be testing their talents at Kart 2 Kart and 25 other go-kart centers across the country. The program is designed to directly address the lack of American presence at the pinnacle of motor racing: the Formula 1 World Championship. "The Red Bull Driver Search program aims to discover and support highly talented young drivers already in racing, as well as the "diamonds-in-the-rough", lacking the knowledge and contacts needed to embark on a career in racing," Said Tony Eckrich, Kart 2 Kart president. The four top qualifiers from Kart 2 Kart move up to the regional events with the final 10 Red Bull Driver Search finalists will be announced at the US Formula 1 Grand Prix in Indianapolis on September 25. Danny Sullivan, former Formula 1 driver for Tyrell-Ford, 1985 Indy 500 winner and 1988 CART Indycar Champion, is in charge of the program. A set of 12 drivers will be selected through a process of competitive elimination within the American go-kart racing scene. Drivers: Must be 16-19 years of age, Grand Prix style wheel-to-wheel competition, point scoring system, Top four(4) fastest qualifying Drivers go on to compete at the regional events in phase 2.
