Gordano Makes Bold Upgrades to its Enterprise IM; Seamlessly Integrates IM into Messaging and Calendaring Infrastructure
NEW YORK--May 13, 2003--Gordano Ltd -- an international developer of low cost, web based messaging products known as the Gordano Messaging Suite (GMS) -- has announced GMS Instant Messaging Version 2, just months after debuting the first secure IM for the enterprise.
Tightly integrated within the suite, GMS IM Version 2 "brings IM seamlessly into the rest of an organization's messaging and calendaring infrastructure, yet gives users substantial control over how they appear online and what information is revealed about them," says Gordano Managing Director Brian Dorricott.
While in IM, the screen will reveal "location," which shows where the user is physically located, information that is gathered from the last known log-on point. Both "location" and "presence" information can be revealed according to the user's privileges and wishes, and can show where they are and how best to reach them -- via cell phone, text messaging, email, land line, etc.
For example, if a user's calendar contains a meeting or other event, the details could be displayed automatically in their IM status. "Presence" information and availability can be displayed via the calendar and also within a mail client -- both traditional mail clients such as Outlook and the GMS WebMail client. Calendars can be shared and have a "show-through" feature, facilitating team interaction.
Many vendors are struggling to provide enterprise instant messaging in a vacuum -- completely disconnected from other systems," says Dan Keldsen, Senior Analyst, Delphi Group. "Unlike them, Gordano already integrates presence and location awareness, alternative routing for offline states and subtle integration details that most other providers haven't begun to consider, let alone make headway on," concludes Keldsen.
Users can send Instant Messages from any browser using almost any platform, maintain contact lists drawn from their existing address books, view correspondent status and specify to whom they are or are not available for IM sessions. IM session transcripts can be sent automatically by email to session participants and user status can be displayed showing preferred method of contact (e.g. cell-phone, email etc.) when not available for an IM session.
Gordano's IM solution is written using HTML, Java and JavaScript, which means that it can be used with many browsers on different platforms. Not having to install special client software dramatically reduces administration costs and makes access possible from almost anywhere, subject to security defined by the administrator.
One Time Charge cost of the Gordano Messaging Suite IM module ranges from $555 for 50 users to $6,835 for 5,000 users on the Windows and Unix (Solaris, Linux, AIX) platforms respectively. Maintenance and support contracts are also available, including 24x7 telephone.
Once downloaded, Gordano's messaging products are capable of processing millions of messages per day without installing any other software or hardware. Thanks to the products' web-based interfaces, users can access their e-mail anywhere with an Internet connection, allowing individual management of folders, filters, anti-spam options, calendars, etc. without the intervention of an administrator.
