UCLA New Parking Structure to Be Completed by International Parking Design Early and Under Budget

LOS ANGELES--May 12, 2003--International Parking Design (IPD), Bomel Construction and Frame Design Group, the structural division of IPD, will complete the new UCLA Intramural Field Parking Structure (IM Field) two months earlier than planned and approximately $2 million under budget.
Designed to serve students and event parking for Pauley Pavilion, Drake Stadium, Intramural Field, and UCLA Tennis Stadium, this two-level, 1,550-space below-grade structure achieves another major goal of the university: the restoration of the Intramural Field playing surface. The concept of below-grade parking provided that opportunity.
The IM Field Parking Structure completes the third phase of underground parking on UCLA's north campus. Parking now exists under Janss Plaza and the recently restored soccer field as an extension of Parking Structure #4. The main entrance to the parking is via an Auto Court off Sunset Boulevard. At 3,000 spaces, the UCLA subterranean parking facility is one of the largest below-grade complexes in California.
Underground parking has also enabled the restoration of the historic Janss Plaza, affording a dual use of land for UCLA's growth, without losing valuable green space. Another great feature is the now unobstructed view from the top of the Janss Steps to Drake Stadium. "Parking, parking everywhere and not a car in sight," said senior vice president of International Parking Design and principal-in-charge of the UCLA projects, Clifford E. Smith.
International Parking Design began its relationship with UCLA in 1985, consulting on more than 20 projects, ranging from feasibility studies to architect of record for both above- and below-grade parking structures. IPD is a full-service architectural firm dedicated exclusively to parking design and consulting.
The firm provides complete architectural, structural, and parking consulting services, including demand and feasibility studies, land-use planning, functional design, access and revenue control systems, and operations consulting. IPD maintains offices in Los Angeles, Oakland, Irvine, and Sacramento, Calif.
