Realities of Chinese Auto Industry Explored in GlobalAutoIndustry.com Seminar

TROY, Mich.--May 8, 2003--Expect the Chinese automotive industry of the future to follow the pattern of Japan and Korea - Chinese firms in control and few foreign firms on the landscape, predicts one GlobalAutoIndustry.com expert.
While others see only a vast, untapped market for cars and trucks, Graeme Maxton looks beneath what he calls China's "gravity-defying economics" and sees a volatile future with increasing Chinese dominance.
"You've got to be very skeptical about the Chinese government and its motives," Maxton said. "The Chinese haven't been colonized in 3,000 years - why do you think it's going to happen now?"
Maxton will discuss why China is an "uncomfortable challenge" and not for the faint of heart at a GlobalAutoIndustry.com half-day seminar and luncheon for auto supplier executives, "Succeeding in China's Booming Auto Industry," May 14 at the Troy Marriott.
Maxton is managing director of Autopolis, a specialty strategy consulting group, and a contributing editor for The Economist Group. He also is chairman of The Economist's auto industry conferences around the world.
The program will feature 10 presentations from experts and companies familiar with the challenges and pitfalls in the Chinese market. This powerful lineup of speakers will address critical issues for auto suppliers considering venturing into China, expected to be the world's hottest automotive market for the next 20 years.
Global experts featured include JD Power and Associates; Butzel Long P.C.; Ernst & Young; Wyatt Watson Worldwide; The PAC Group; Autopolis Asia; Kroll Associates (Asia) Ltd.; and Prudential Relocation International.

    The seminar will cover:

-- Lay of the Land: OEMs Plan for Exponential Growth
-- Legal and Business Structures and New Regulations
-- Compensation Questions: Unique Nuances of China
-- Lessons Learned: Doing an Acquisition in China
-- Sourcing Automotive Components in China
-- Why China is not for the Faint of Heart
