Delphi Earns Honda's Prestigious Presidential Award For Motorcycle Battery Supply in Brazil
TROY, Mich., May 8, 2003 -- Honda Motor Corporation's motorcycle division in Brazil has just awarded Delphi Corporation with its Presidential Award, one of its highest recognition honors, for battery supply.
Delphi's Freedom(R) AGM Motorcycle Batteries, produced at the company's Piracicaba, Sao Paulo, facility, are featured on several Honda motorcycle and ATV models. Moto Honda da Amazonia, a motorcycle division of Honda in Manaus, Amazonia - Brazil, presented its Presidential Award to Delphi for exceeding excellence levels in delivery, technological development and cost improvement during 2002.
Among recognition awards offered by Honda, this award is ranked as one of the most important. Among 110 suppliers, Delphi was one in 10 to receive it -- in the first full year as Honda's supplier.
"We aspire to be Honda's best supplier, and this award is a testament to how serious our team feels about providing the best for them," said Guy C. Hachey, Delphi vice president and president of Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems division.
Globally, Delphi has received five awards from Honda since 2002, with three of them (including this one) awarded in 2003. Since 2002, Delphi has received a total of 53 customer quality awards with 21 of those in 2003.
Product Information
Delphi's Freedom(R) AGM Motorcycle Battery is completely sealed with a one-way pressure valve. It provides up to twice the life of flooded lead-acid batteries. Its rugged case design eliminates the possibility of spillage and gives it unsurpassed durability and safety.
Delphi's maintenance-free Freedom(R) batteries are a highly efficient, long-life power source, providing outstanding current conductivity through their wrought lead-calcium grid design. High-density plates provide excellent reserve capacity and cycling capability to meet the increasing electrical accessory loads of today's vehicles.
These benefits and capabilities can be applied to a wide range of automotive and non-automotive applications, including marine, heavy-duty and standby-power systems. Delphi's extensive Freedom(R) battery product portfolio includes:
* Freedom(R) Marine Battery -- made specifically for inboard and outboard marine engines and recreational vehicles for high endurance in all types of weather conditions. Thicker grids and high-density active material allow multiple deep discharges during the life of the battery; an important feature to marine batteries that often require extended storage during winter months.
* Freedom(R) Heavy Duty Battery -- designed to meet starting requirements for most large gasoline and diesel engines on heavy-duty service applications in construction, agriculture and transportation industries. Increased cycling ability makes this battery suitable for coach, bus and off-road applications while providing ample cranking power even in extreme conditions.
* Freedom(R) AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) Battery -- a recombinant maintenance-free battery that provides superior life and packaging flexibility. Typical applications for this product include police, taxi and commercial fleets and the emerging hybrid-powered vehicle market. In addition, the Freedom(R) AGM Battery is recyclable, using existing material reclamation infrastructures.
* Freedom(R) Standby Power Battery -- made for power applications that include cable television control boxes, roadside sign illumination, portable highway caution signs, electrical and photovoltaic storage systems, Delphi's Freedom(R) Standby Power Batteries are deep-cycle batteries that give hours of uninterrupted electrical power.
Delphi's extensive global battery footprint allows for maximum flexibility in meeting the ever-changing needs of customers. Delphi produces batteries at wholly owned facilities and joint ventures in the United States, Canada, Mexico, France, Korea, China, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia.
