Mother's Day, Vacation Season Mean More Time on The Road

Preventive Maintenance Best Defense For On-The-Road Safety

HOUSTON, May 8 -- Americans are likely to spend more time on the road in the upcoming months, according to two new surveys.

Thirty percent of Americans will drive between one and 50 miles to spend time with their mothers on Mother's Day, according to a recent poll conducted by Ipsos-Reid for Jiffy Lube International.

In a separate survey, the Travel Industry Association of America found that 33 percent of people who traveled last year say they are changing their leisure travel plans this year, primarily due to the weakened economy. This will likely mean more vacationers will travel by car this summer to save money, and they will likely stay closer to home.

"Now that your car has made it through the colder weather, spring is the right time to bring your car in for service," said Anne Tawney, senior vice president of marketing, Jiffy Lube International. "At the same time, our team of professionals can take a look under the hood to make sure your car is ready for vacation season."

The Car Care Council recently reported that nine out of 10 vehicles need some kind of maintenance. According to their data, the most common problems are low or dirty engine oil, improper tire pressure, inadequate cooling protection, worn belts, dirty oil filters, and low or contaminated brake fluid. Jiffy Lube(R) technicians can spot many of these potential problems while doing a regular oil change.

When combined with a thorough inspection, an oil change by a trained professional can be one of the most efficient and effective ways to prepare your vehicle for summer travel. The Jiffy Lube Signature Service(R) oil change includes replacing oil with up to five quarts of quality motor oil, replacing the oil filter with a quality filter, visually inspecting brake fluid and antifreeze/coolant reservoir levels, inspecting the air filtration system, wiper blades and lights, checking the condition of belts, vacuuming interior floors, cleaning exterior windows, lubricating the chassis (when applicable), checking and setting tires to the proper pressure, and checking and topping off transmission/transaxle fluid, differential fluid, power steering fluid, windshield washer fluid and battery water.

"As consumers look for ways to protect their vehicle investment, an oil change at Jiffy Lube(R) is a relative bargain," said Tawney.

Jiffy Lube(R), located on 2,200 of the busiest street corners in North America, is synonymous with convenient car care. The company pioneered the fast oil change industry in 1979 and today serves 30 million customers each year. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Jiffy Lube International is a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of Shell Oil Company .
