NOTES OF INTEREST: In preparation for Saturday night's, May 10 Channel 5-205 at Kentucky Speedway, Louisville Courier Journal Pole Night will help get things underway on Friday, May 9 with Old Milwaukee Pole Award Qualifying at 6 pm local. Saturday's Channel 5-205 will be the 7th appearance of the ARCA RE/MAX Series at KY since its KY debut in the Spring of 2000. Frank Kimmel is the all-time RE/MAX Series winner at Kentucky with 3 victories. Additional KY/ARCA winners include Ryan Newman, Tim Steele and Chad Blount. This year's ARCA Rookie of the year battle could not be closer. Pryor, Oklahoma driver Christi Passmore and Chelsea, Michigan driver Bill Eversole are tied at 142 points each. In addition to the live SPEED Channel broadcast, WLWT Channel 5, the Cincinnati-based NBC affiliate, will carry live coverage of the race with ARCA, Winston Cup champion and renowned television analyst Benny Parsons joining WLWT veteran Ken Broo in the booth. This year's entry list is as diverse as the series itself. Those pre-entered include 18-year-old Kyle Busch in pursuit of his 2nd career ARCA RE/MAX Series victory in his 3rd start. Busch, in a Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, won at Nashville Superspeedway earlier this year. Kimmel, coming off his 44th career victory at Toledo Speedway last week, is the current point leader over 3rd generation driver Billy Venturini who, in his last 5 starts, has 3 top-5 finishes and 4 top-10s. Venturini's career-best finish was 3rd at Kentucky in 2001. Also entered is veteran and 16-time winner Bob Strait who will be making his 200th career ARCA RE/MAX Series start at Kentucky. 18-year-old Shelby Howard, entered in a Dodge, is coming off a victory at Salem Speedway backed up by a 3rd place finish at Toledo. Also entered is former NFL head coach Jerry Glanville, 3rd generation racer Jason Jarrett, Deborah Renshaw and Junior High School principal Kim Crosby.
