The First Day of Qualifying in Atlanta Finds Warren Johnson Eighth

Event: Twenty-Third Annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals
	  Presented by Pontiac
Location: Atlanta Dragway
       Commerce, GA
Day/Date: Friday May 2, 2003

On-track activities were curtailed by inclement weather on Friday at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals presented by Pontiac. After completing one qualifying session, evening rain forced the cancellation of the second time trial at Atlanta Dragway. Warren Johnson made a solid run on his single attempt, posting an elapsed time of 6.936 seconds with a top speed of 199.02 mph. This placed Johnson's GM Performance Parts Grand Am eighth heading into Saturday's final two sessions.

"We were just a little tight on the clutch, which pulled the motor down on the starting line. Once we got to the 330 foot mark, it started running pretty decently, so we know what we have to do for tomorrow. This GM Performance Parts Grand Am will be fine."
