G. Richard Wagoner, Jr. Makes First Public Speech as Chairman Of General Motors Corporation at Detroit Economic Club

DETROIT, April 29 -- The Detroit Economic Club (DEC) announces G. Richard Wagoner, Jr., who will become Chairman of General Motors Corporation on May 1, will speak at its Friday, May 2nd meeting. Mr. Wagoner has responsibility for the strategic and operational leadership of GM, and is chairman of its Automotive Strategy Board.

Mr. Wagoner will address members and guests of the Detroit Economic Club at a luncheon meeting at noon in the main Ballroom at the Detroit Marriott Hotel in the Renaissance Center. Following the luncheon, he will have a brief press conference at 1:30 p.m., in the Greco Room at the Hotel.

"This is a big day for the Detroit Region," said Beth Chappell, President, Detroit Economic Club. "General Motors is one of the largest companies in the world and plays a vital role in the global economy. This is a wonderful opportunity for our members and guests to participate in this historic event as the leadership gavel passes to Mr. Wagoner."

The Presiding Officer for this special DEC meeting will be Robert Rossiter, who became Chairman & CEO of Lear Corporation on January 1, 2003. Mr. Rossiter is also a member of the Board of Directors, Detroit Economic Club.
