Navistar Awards Employee-Inventors for New Technologies and Designs
WARRENVILLE, Ill.--April 28, 2003--Navistar International Corporation , the nation's largest commercial truck, school bus and mid-range diesel engine producer, today honored employee-inventors for the patent of 29 technologies and designs that increase the reliability, performance and durability of International(R) brand trucks.Daniel C. Ustian, president and chief executive officer, presented the Patent Awards at a ceremony in Fort Wayne, Ind., co-sponsored by the Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Development Alliance and attended by Fort Wayne Mayor Graham Richard.
"The spirit of innovation and its practical application thrives at International," Ustian said. "The performance and novelty inherent in these innovations are a direct value to our customers and make International stand out from the competition."
The 29 patents honored this year stem from advancements developed at International's Reliability Center and Truck Development and Technology Center located in Fort Wayne. They include a Headlight Anti-Glare System that is particularly useful in school bus applications to allow approaching vehicles to better see the school bus and crossing children, and a Vehicle Battery Condition Monitoring/System used in International 4000, 7000 and 8000 Series vehicles that notifies the driver of impending battery failure.
The Patent Awards underscore International's commitment to innovation. The Industry's First High Performance Truck (TM) family introduced by International in February 2001 has received more than 60 patents, and more than 100 International patent applications are currently pending at the U.S. Patent Office.
The company also achieved at least 25 percent year-to-year growth in the number of patents issued to it in the last three fiscal years, and has received more patents in FY 2003 and FY 2002 than its three main competitors combined.
