Pioneer Receives ISO 14001 Environmental Certification

LONG BEACH, Calif., April 28 -- Pioneer North America today announced that it has received ISO 14001 certification for environmental management systems from Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) for itself and six of its non-manufacturing facilities in North America, including:

  *  Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc., Long Beach, Calif.
  *  Pioneer Entertainment (USA) Inc., Long Beach, Calif.
  *  Pioneer Automotive Electronics Sales Inc., Long Beach, Calif.
  *  Pioneer Digital Technologies Inc., Burbank, Calif.
  *  Pioneer of Canada, Markham, Ontario
  *  Discovision Associates, Irvine, Calif.

Pioneer already has 39 ISO 14001 certifications at manufacturing facilities worldwide as well as at its corporate headquarters office in Tokyo and its automotive OEM division office in Detroit.

One of Pioneer's corporate missions is to maintain, improve and hand over the earth environment to the next generation. To that end, Pioneer established an environmental policy for its manufacturing facilities as well as its daily office operations. The company also continues to develop products that are environmentally friendly, with many earning the Energy Star certification. Pioneer also reports on these activities in its Environmental Report, published annually since fiscal 1999.

ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized environmental management system standard that outlines several key requirements to which companies should comply in order to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. The five major elements of the environmental management system requirements are Environmental Policy, Planning, Implementation and Operations, Checking and Corrective Action, and Management Review. The advantages to be gained through the implementation of ISO 14001 include risk reduction, cost reductions and increased competitive advantages.
