GEICO Team Earns Corporation's 'Make It Easy' Award

WASHINGTON, April 25 -- A team of associates recently earned honors from GEICO (Government Employees Insurance Company) as Corporate Quality Award winners for 2002.

A group of associates from GEICO's human resources information systems, information services' Direct Net team and the payroll division of the treasurer's department received the 2002 Make It Easy Award. The award recognizes the needs and expectations of external and internal customers and responds to those needs in an outstanding manner.

The winning team developed the Electronic Time and Attendance System (ETAS). It allows associates to electronically record their own time sheets, review past time sheets and keep track of their sick, vacation and personal leave days. It also provides greater detail for managers to use for staffing purposes.

"The ETAS project was an enormous undertaking that required a total team effort. We produced a great tool that has already proved its value beyond our expectations," said Diane Thompson in GEICO's treasury department. "When we implemented ETAS we provided an outstanding service to our associates."

Several associates recently accepted the award on behalf of the team at a ceremony at GEICO's headquarters in Washington, D.C., to recognize their contribution to the company and those of their fellow associates.

"Each year we are impressed by the accomplishments of our associates, and this year is no different," said Tony Nicely, GEICO chairman and CEO.

The Idea for Quality award program was established in 1993 to recognize individuals, teams or work groups who have demonstrated outstanding achievement by participating in and contributing to the success of GEICO's Quality Improvement Process.
