DON SCHUMACHER TO SPEAK ON THE BUSINESS OF AUTO RACING AT SARDI'S MAY 13
NEW YORK CITY (April 25, 2003) -- Don Schumacher, owner of Don Schumacher
Racing, the largest NHRA pro racing team in the 2003 NHRA POWERade Drag
Racing Series, will speak at a monthly luncheon of the Madison Avenue Sports
Car Driving and Chowder Society at the famed Sardi's Restaurant in New York
City on Tuesday, May 13.
Schumacher, a successful business owner since 1975 and a multiple NHRA team
owner since 2001, will speak on the subject of "the business of automobile
racing." He will discuss the strategic planning required in order to
introduce new and diverse companies into the high-powered arena of NHRA
drag-racing and how his organization has provided his team sponsors a
valuable return for their investment. Sponsors this season of the Don
Schumacher Racing team include Matco Tools, Oakley, U.S. Army and Dodge,
along with a number of associate and product sponsors.
A former drag-racer himself and a resident of Chicago, Don Schumacher owns
Schumacher Electric, the world's foremost manufacturer of battery chargers
with numerous additional product lines including Schumacher Electric Welders
in widespread distribution. More than 900 employees work in the four
Schumacher Electric Corporation manufacturing facilities located in Mt.
Prospect and Hoopeston, Ill., Rensselaer, Ind., and Brownsville, Texas, with
additional offshore resources.
The Schumacher Racing driver lineup includes two-time U.S. Nationals
champion Whit Bazemore, three-time Top Fuel champion Gary Scelzi (now full
time in a Funny Car), 1999 NHRA Rookie of the Year Scotty Cannon, and
Schumacher's son, Tony Schumacher, the 1999 Top Fuel champion.
The Madison Avenue Sports Car Driving and Chowder Society was founded in
1957, and has been meeting at Sardi's restaurant for lunch each month ever
since. Known familiarly as "Chowder," membership is comprised primarily of
media -- magazine, newspaper, television, radio, advertising and public
relations/communications professionals -- who are involved in the automotive
scene, either as a vocation or an avocation.
The luncheon meeting begins at 12 noon and costs $29 per person for
non-media.
Accredited media interested in covering this event are invited as guests of
Schumacher Racing and should contact Judy Stropus, at 203-438-0501,

Sardi's is located at 234 W. 44th St., New York, N.Y., 212-221-8440.
