BMW WilliamsF1 Team - Silverstone Test Summary
22nd -- 24th April 2003
Summary
The BMW WilliamsF1 Team today completed its three-day testing program at a
rain-soaked Silverstone. For the duration of the test, the team focused
primarily
on chassis development work with additional emphasis on tyre and gearbox
improvements.
Juan Pablo Montoya topped the time charts for the first two days of the
test,
however an accident at Maggots towards the end of the run on day two ended
his
test prematurely leaving Marc GenÈ to complete the session today.
Despite the adverse weather conditions on the final day of the test,
considerable
headway was achieved in all areas with the team fairly confident of a
positive
result when it lines the WilliamsF1 BMW FW25 up on the grid for the Spanish
Grand Prix next weekend.
Sam Michael (Chief Operations Engineer, WilliamsF1):
"Although we progressed through the test program at Silverstone this week it
was
hampered by Juan Pablo's crash yesterday afternoon and by bad weather today.
However, we have still learnt a great deal and tested some new parts ready
for
the Spanish Grand Prix next week. Marc finished off the test today by
verifying
some wet and dry tyre choices for Michelin."
Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director):
"The test has been focussed on specific set-up work for the Silverstone
circuit as
well as on intense tyre testing. With regards to the engine, we have been
working
on further improvements of the traction control as it is now assured that we
will be
allowed to use this feature for the entire 2003 season. For today, the final
day of
the Silverstone test, a race simulation had been scheduled but was hampered
and interrupted by changing weather conditions and heavy rain."
