UNOVA's Uniting of Trusted Brands Provides Increased Value and Flexibility to Global Manufacturers

CHESTERFIELD TWP., Mich.--April 21, 2003--UNOVA Industrial Automation Systems has unveiled a new look combining the brand marks of Cincinnati Machine, Lamb Technicon and Landis Grinding Systems. This new identity will be used to market its products, technologies and services to the global manufacturing market.
The branding strategy change reflects the significant broadening of capabilities and streamlining of operations that have occurred in recent months as the companies of UNOVA Industrial Automation Systems synergize to offer an expanded portfolio of manufacturing solutions. Historically there has been very little overlap in market segments for the well-known brands. This new combination enables better global reach and an improved product line-up in a market that has changed dramatically in the past decade.
"The companies within UNOVA Industrial Automation Systems are far more complementary than people might realize," said Roger Cope, vice president - marketing, UNOVA Industrial Automation Systems. "Cincinnati, Lamb and Landis are all widely recognized individual brands with long and successful histories. This new strategy allows customers access to the best products, technologies and services from these trusted names, backed by superior business systems and lean operations under a single umbrella."
The merger of Cincinnati Machine and Lamb Technicon business systems, announced last fall, has continued to progress through centralization of the management structure, consolidation of manufacturing facilities, and a common plan to support customer service needs. Landis Grinding Systems is now also taking steps to streamline its operations and has introduced new lean initiatives such as single source machining, a common product development plan, and transparent business and document management systems. These changes offer customers more choices, expanded access to some of the world's best resources, and the consistent stream of communication needed to optimize the supplier-manufacturer relationship.
This approach to structuring its business operations and the series of strategic alliances and co-manufacturing agreements, successfully concluded, have given UNOVA Industrial Automation Systems an improved business model, better suited to the realities of 21st Century manufacturing which requires flexibility, lean operations, and truly global capability. According to Cope, the company will continue to expand its global reach with premium quality customer offerings worldwide.
"Moving forward, we will pursue additional alliances and product lines that serve to strengthen our global position and complement our technological capabilities," Cope added.

    Note to editors:
Since 1997, the name UNOVA Industrial Automation Systems has been used as the formal identification for the company of which Cincinnati Machine, Lamb Technicon and Landis Grinding Systems are divisions. After the merger of Cincinnati and Lamb, a formal brand review was conducted and it was determined that the formerly announced company name, UNOVA Manufacturing Technologies, will only be used as an internal designation by the corporation. Please contact us if you would like any more information on this matter.
