FedEx Supply Chain Services Named General Motors 'Supplier of the Year' Fifth Consecutive Time for Top Award; FSCS Manages Inbound Transportation Suppliers for GM

MEMPHIS, Tenn.--April 21, 2003--For the fifth consecutive year, FedEx Supply Chain Services (FSCS), a FedEx Corp. company that provides supply-chain management solutions, has earned a General Motors "Supplier of the Year" award for its overall business performance in providing GM with logistics services. The award was given during ceremonies April 12 in Miami.
"FedEx Supply Chain Services is representative of the companies GM expects to grow with us as we seek to increase market share," said Bo Anderson, vice president, GM Worldwide Purchasing Production Control & Logistics. "The company's performance and contributions have been critical in helping GM to become the industry's low-cost producer of high-quality vehicles. They serve as a role model for other suppliers."
Since 1995, FSCS has managed the inbound transportation for more than 1,500 suppliers into 28 GM powertrain engine, transmission and component plants, primarily in North America. FSCS in 1998 became the first logistics provider to receive the GM award and is the only logistics company to receive the award for five years in a row.
"Our business is to help companies improve their supply-chain efficiency and performance, in turn allowing them to achieve stronger operating performance, said Doug Witt, president and chief executive officer, FSCS. "The synchronization, efficiency and value of end-to-end FedEx supply-chain solutions for leading companies such as General Motors is a testament to the strength of FedEx in meeting every customer need. It is a privilege for FedEx Supply Chain Services to have been chosen a top supplier by GM for the fifth straight year."
The GM Supplier of the Year award began as a global program in 1992. Award-winners are selected by a worldwide team of executives from purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and logistics who base their decisions on supplier performance in quality, service, technology and price. This year, GM honored 70 suppliers for their excellence throughout 2002.
