Stu Hayner - Long Beach Wrap-Up
Stu Hayner Holds On To 5th Place In Points After Long Beach
6th place finish enough to keep the leaders in sight
Detroit – April 17, 2003 – Making the best of a tough situation, Stu
Hayner kept the #2 Trenton Forging/GMAC Commercial Finance Corvette
digging and came away with a 6th place finish in round 2 of the
Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup at the Long Beach Grand
Prix, Never quite finding the handle on the setup, Hayner had to be
pleased with the overall outcome.
“It was a tough weekend all the way around,” said Hayner. “Our finish
is certainly not reflective of the effort and hard work put in by the
crew. The guys threw everything they had at it. We just never clicked
on the setup. We were faster every round…. but the other guys were
going even faster.”
“The big thing we have got to address is the brakes,” continued Hayner.
“We have something going on that is preventing a consistent pedal. I
find myself practically standing on them with both feet… but more
importantly, the consistency is not there. We’re going to have to make
some changes before Mosport and bring home a victory for Trenton
Forging and GMAC Commercial Finance. And for this crew… these poor guys
are long overdue.”
The sixth place finish was enough to keep Hayner tied for 5th place in
the Championship points. He heads into Mosport well ahead of last year.
Hayner had a 7th place finish at the famed Canadian venue in 2002 and
the team views Mosport as one of the tracks they can pick up ground on
their Championship run.
The Mosport event is slated for May 18th in Bowmanville Ontario, just
outside Toronto. The Trans-Am Series is the feature race on the program
that will also feature the SPEED World Challenge Series. The Trans-Am
race at Mosport will air tape delayed on SPEED Channel May 25th
providing fans with a weekend double header as the Lime Rock Park
Trans-Am race will air live on May 26th.
