Briggs & Stratton Corporation Elects Director

MILWAUKEE, April 16 -- Briggs & Stratton Corporation : At its regular quarterly meeting held today, the Board of Directors of Briggs & Stratton Corporation unanimously elected William F. Achtmeyer a director of the company. Mr. Achtmeyer's election is effective July 1, 2003, when Frederick P. Stratton, Jr. retires as a member of the Board. Mr. Achtmeyer is Chairman and Managing Partner of The Parthenon Group, a management consulting firm located in Boston, MA. He is also Chairman of the Board of Overseers of The Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
