The Timken Company Shareholders Elect New Director

CANTON, Ohio, April 15 -- At The Timken Company's annual meeting of shareholders today, General Joseph W. Ralston, USAF, Retired was elected to the board of directors for a three-year term, expiring at the 2006 annual meeting.

  

Also at the annual meeting, Stanley C. Gault, John M. Timken, Jr., W. R. Timken, Jr. and Jacqueline F. Woods were re-elected as directors for three- year terms to expire at the 2006 annual meeting.

The remaining eight directors are as follows:

James W. Griffith, John A. Luke, Jr., Ward J. Timken and Martin D. Walker whose terms expire at the 2004 annual meeting and Robert W. Mahoney, Jay A. Precourt, Ward J. Timken, Jr. and Joseph F. Toot, Jr., whose terms expire at the 2005 annual meeting.

Biographical Summary of General Joseph W. Ralston, USAF, Retired

In 2003, General Ralston, 59, completed a distinguished 37-year Air Force career as commander, U.S. European Command and Supreme Allied Commander Europe, NATO, in Mons, Belgium. He was the senior U.S. military officer and commander of a unified combatant command with an area of responsibility that includes 93 nations throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Previously, General Ralston served as vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (1996-2000), the nation's second-highest-ranking military officer. In that role, General Ralston chaired the Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC), which validated the requirements for nearly every program of the Department of Defense.

General Ralston holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Miami (Ohio) University and a master's degree in personnel management from Central Michigan University. In addition, he also has completed programs at the Army Command and General Staff College, the National War College and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He is a native of Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

General Ralston began his Air Force career in 1965 as a fighter pilot. He advanced through a series of assignments in the U.S., Asia and Europe. He was promoted to brigadier general in 1988, major general in 1990, lieutenant general in 1992 and general in 1995.

He recently joined The Cohen Group in Washington, D.C., as vice chairman. The Cohen Group works with multinational clients to explore opportunities overseas.
