Fleetwood RV 'Smart Coach' is Presented With 2003 Computerworld Honors Medal of Achievement; Becomes a Worldwide Finalist
RIVERSIDE, Calif., April 15 -- Fleetwood Enterprises, Inc. , a leading manufacturer of recreational vehicles, received notification yesterday that it has been named a Worldwide Finalist for a 21st- Century Achievement Award in Computerworld's Honors Program. The Company was named a Laureate and presented with the Computerworld Honors Medal of Achievement for the Fleetwood RV "Smart Coach" at Computerworld's annual medal ceremony in San Francisco on April 6, 2003. Five Worldwide Finalists were selected by a distinguished panel of judges from the Laureates in each of 10 categories. In June, the Program will honor these Finalists in Washington, D.C. At that time, the Chairmen's Committee will present 21st-Century Achievement Awards to the 10 organizations selected by the judges as first among their peers.
The "Smart Coach" is a concept vehicle that networks a variety of devices inside and outside the RV to provide users with enhanced comfort and safety features. It includes 2-way Internet access via satellite, an Intel Pentium 4-based personal computer and a portable web tablet through which a touch pad interface can be used to access networked devices. From the tablet, RV owners have the ability to open and close slide-out living rooms and bedrooms, view security cameras, monitor and/or change set points on their thermostats, turn air conditioning and heating systems on and off, control lighting and enable predetermined scenes (for example specific light levels, HVAC set points, and slide-out configurations) with the tap of a finger. Touch Pad switches provide an optional user interface to the automated devices in the RV. The portion of the customized graphical Interface that communicates to LonWorks devices is built on top of Echelon's LNS network operating system.
