The DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund Donates $25,000 To The Boys Choir of Harlem

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., April 14 -- The Boys Choir of Harlem, the world renowned performing arts and educational institution, has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund, it was announced today.

The grant will be presented at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, April 15 in the Schomburg Center, 515 Malcolm X Blvd., Harlem. Members of the choir will perform a special selection as part of a media briefing to unveil a new multicultural advertising campaign for the all-new Chrysler Pacifica.

"For more than 30 years, The Boys Choir of Harlem has given the world great music through young people, and, at the same time, educated those young people to be citizens of the world," said Frank Fountain, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President - Government Affairs and President of the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund.

"The Boys Choir of Harlem is most grateful to the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund for its support and commitment to our children and their development," said Horace Turnbull, Executive Vice President of The Boys Choir of Harlem.

With the dual musical heritage of the European boys choir and the African American church choir, The Boys Choir of Harlem has an artistic repertoire ranging from classical music to jazz, contemporary songs, gospels, spirituals and specially commissioned works by leading African American composers.

The organization presently serves more than 500 boys and girls. The Choir Academy of Harlem is a school for boys and girls aged 8-18, in grades 4-12. About 98 percent of the children who graduate from the program are accepted at colleges throughout the United States.
