Dana Honored with 2002 General Motors Supplier of the Year Award

TOLEDO, Ohio, April 14 -- Dana Corporation has been recognized by General Motors as a 2002 Supplier of the Year for its fuel cell technology. Specifically, Dana's Victor Reinz division was honored for its innovation in bipolar plates, end plates, and seals, three components of a fuel cell.

The award was presented to Dana during award ceremonies on April 12 in Miami. This marks the seventh time Dana's Victor Reinz group has received this prestigious award from General Motors.

"Dana Corporation is representative of the companies GM expects to grow with us as we seek to increase market share," said Bo Andersson, General Motors' vice president of Worldwide Purchasing Production Control & Logistics. "Dana's performance and contributions have been critical in helping GM to become the industry's low-cost producer of high-quality vehicles. They serve as a role model for other suppliers."

Dana Chairman and CEO Joe Magliochetti added, "Dana scientists, engineers, and designers are developing the next generation of fuel-cell components and manufacturing methods. We view this recognition from General Motors as clear evidence that our fuel-cell development efforts offer solid growth potential."

Mike Laisure, president of Dana's Engine and Fluid Management Group, said, "We are honored by this award and look forward to strengthening our relationship with General Motors in the alternative energy area, as well as in our traditional under-the-hood and under-the-vehicle products and systems."

Dana's fuel-cell development efforts are focused in Fuel-Cell Support Centers in Canada, the United States, and Germany. A fourth center will open in Japan later this year. Technologies under development include: composite and metallic bipolar plates with integrated seals, end caps, thermal management systems, heat exchangers, electronic pumps and valves, and reformer components.

The GM Supplier of the Year program began in 1992. Award winners are selected by a global team of purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, and logistics executives who base their decisions on total supplier performance in the areas of quality, service, technology, and price.

Dana Corporation is a global leader in the design, engineering, and manufacture of value-added products and systems for automotive, commercial, and off-highway vehicle manufacturers and their related aftermarkets. The company employs more than 60,000 people worldwide. Founded in 1904 and based in Toledo, Ohio, Dana operates hundreds of technology, manufacturing, and customer service facilities in 30 countries.
