FIGGE TO START SEVENTH IN HOMETOWN RACE

LONG BEACH, CALIF. (April 12, 2003) –Alex Figge, of Santa Barbara, Calif.,
today qualified seventh for Round Two of the 2003 CART Toyota Atlantic
Championship at Long Beach.

Following a night of changes to the car and a solid run in morning practice,
Figge entered the final qualifying session in an upbeat mood. In sunny and
hot conditions, Figge attacked the 1.968-mile street circuit on cold tires.
Displaying great car control in the No. 69 Pacific Coast Motorsports/Patrick
Racing Toyota Swift 0.14a, Figge was in second position by his fourth lap.
At the six minute mark of the 30-minute session, Figge pitted for fresh
tires. Following the four laps it takes to get the tires to optimal racing
temperature, Figge began posting fast laps, moving into fourth position.
During the final five minutes of the session, Figge repeatedly ran into
slower traffic, ruining numerous fast laps. At the checkered flag, Figge had
posted a fast lap of 1:17.079 (91.916 MPH), finishing seventh in the
standings. The top-10 starting position betters Figge's 16th place starting
position in 2002.

"I’m disappointed," said Figge. "I obviously think we have a better car than
we showed. I ran into a lot of traffic in some really bad spots when I had
fresh tires. Tomorrow the goal will be to run a clean race and work my way
to the front."

The CART Toyota Atlantic Championship Grand Prix of Long Beach gets
underway, Sunday, April 13, at 10:30 a.m. (PT). The race will be 32 laps or
50-minutes in duration and will be broadcast live on SPEED Channel.
