Peter Reckell Takes Pole Position for the 27th Annual Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race; Winner Receives ``PEOPLE Pole Award'' and $10,000 for Charity

    LONG BEACH, Calif.--April 11, 2003--"Days of Our Lives" star Peter Reckell turned the fastest lap (1:48.900) in today's qualifying session at the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race to take the pole position for the 27th Anniversary of the fan-favorite event on Saturday, April 12.
    The top professional driver was Josh Brolin (NBC's "Mr. Sterling"), with a lap time of 1:47.547.
    In addition to winning the coveted inside front-row position for the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race, Reckell also was awarded the sixth annual "PEOPLE Pole Award."
    Sponsored by PEOPLE Magazine, the award honors the top-celebrity qualifier for the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race with a $10,000 donation from PEOPLE to the pole sitter's charity of choice. Reckell designated the Natural Resource Defense Council, a charitable organization that finds practical solutions to the most urgent environmental problems, to benefit from his Pole Award.

    The Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race will begin at approximately noon on Saturday, April 12 with a field of 15 drivers. The 10-lap race will be broadcast in its entirety on ESPN 2 on May 3 at 2:30 PT.
