Mopar Motorsports NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series 16th Annual O¹Reilly Spring Nationals Houston Raceway Park Baytown, Texas Pre-Event Notes Television Coverage (All Times Eastern) April 13 Qualifying; ESPN2, 1- 3 a.m. April 13 Eliminations; ESPN2, 5-8 p.m. April 15 Eliminations; ESPN2, 2:30-4:30 p.m. Johnson Debuts Mopar¹s New Dodge Stratus R/T in Houston Tennessee driver Joins Morgan and Wilson in New Pro Stock Car BAYTOWN, Texas (April 11, 2003) Mopar¹s Allen Johnson is debuting his new Hemi-powered Dodge Stratus R/T Pro Stock machine at this weekend¹s 11th annual O¹Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park. Johnson joins Mopar factory drivers Larry Morgan and Gene Wilson with the new car; while teammate Darrell Alderman remains in his current Dodge Neon R/T. ³We ran it Tuesday and Wednesday in Dallas,² said Johnson, on this past week¹s testing session at the Texas Motorplex. ³We made three or four real good runs in the Stratus. We moved the entire power train, tires and everything from my Neon. And with the same set up the Stratus was a little faster. ³The car drives down the track really well,² said Johnson of his Rick Jones-built chassis. ³The front steering is a little wider and a little more stabile. We made some changes based on Darrell¹s car, and it really made the car stable down the track. We changed a little in the gearing where there was a shake. I think the Mopar engineers hit a homerun with this design.² The Greeneville, Tenn., resident currently sits fourth in the POWERade Pro Stock World Championship chase. Johnson made a final-round appearance at the season-opening Winternationals at Pomona (Calif.) Raceway; and drove to the semifinals of the historic Gatornationals at Gainesville (Fla.)
