MotoTron Engine Control System to Help Daewoo Lift Trucks Meet 2004 EPA Emission Standards

OSHKOSH, Wis., April 9 -- Engine control technology from MotoTron, a unit of Brunswick New Technologies, will soon be helping South Korea's Daewoo offer more environmentally friendly lift trucks for the North American and Asian markets.

MotoTron is supplying the technology through its joint venture with Woodward Governor Company, which has announced the signing of an agreement with Daewoo Heavy Industries Industrial Vehicle Division. The joint venture will supply the MI-4 engine control system, developed by Woodward in conjunction with MotoTron, for certain Daewoo propane-fueled lift trucks.

The MI-4 control is a tightly integrated system of fuel, air, and ignition control modules used on small mobile industrial engines. The system is designed to help engine and engine equipment manufacturers more cost- effectively meet the 2004 U.S. EPA emission standards as well as other regulatory standards around the world. The market for energy control technology products for gas and diesel mobile industrial engines of this size range is about $300 million worldwide.

To better focus on the industrial market, MotoTron, a leader in high- performance electronic control systems for engines and vehicles, formed a joint venture with Woodward. Woodward recently acquired Nolff's Carburetion, Inc., a manufacturer of natural gas and propane fuel systems for small industrial gas engines, to strengthen its position in the mobile industrial market.

Among the partners in the Daewoo agreement is Natural Gas Vehicle International (NGVI) in Korea, who will apply and certify the Woodward- MotoTron system on both General Motors and Mitsubishi engines for Daewoo. NGVI will also apply a less complex Woodward engine control system for engines sold into non-emissions controlled markets.
